Gloria’s first visit to Scotland

Gloria was hired out for a 10 day trip to the Scottish Islands, and her ‘guardians’ sent back this trip report, which we hope will inspire you to create your own adventures.

“After a first night wild camping off the Uzzicar Farm road out of Braithwaite, and with a great view over to Catbells, we took Gloria up through Galloway Forest and along the west coast of Scotland.  A quick google search for a suitable overnight location led us to a quiet car park just behind Troon Harbour where we exploited Gloria’s well equipped kitchen to cook dinner while watching our first amazing sunset.   The next day we took the first of seven ferry trips – starting with Ardrossan to Arran.  First things first, we parked up by a beautiful beach, popped the top up, set up the TV and watched England win one of their World Cup matches! Gloria gave us the freedom to go with the flow and just park up whenever we found a spot we fancied, and so we ended up spending 4 amazing days on Arran.  One of our favourite nights was parking up on the seafront in Blackwaterfoot.  This lovely little village offered everything we needed – great views, a hotel for dinner and drinks, a fabulous artisan bakery and a chemical disposal point behind the public loos!

After Arran we headed over to the Kintyre peninsula and with the Paul McCartney song on a loop in our heads, headed down to the Mull of Kintyre. As musicians, we’d taken our instruments, and this isolated location was perfect for a bit of practice!    We highly recommend Killegruer Caravan Site which is just along from the amazing white sands of Westport beach.  Campervan pitches are right on the beach looking towards Islay and Jura.  Gloria’s camping chairs and table were perfect for al fresco dining and enjoying the sunsets with a glass of wine.

Our last stop in Scotland was Bute, where we found an amazing wild camping site. Courtesy of a local farmer , you drive through his farm yard, down a sandy track and park up literally on the beach with his cows for company.  The  vibe was lovely and relaxing.

We returned to the Lake District for our last night and stayed at Waterside House campsite where we had a fabulous lake side pitch and one final sunset. The campsite was spacious and had all the facilities we needed to spruce ourselves and Gloria up before returning her to Ambleside!”

Sounds like an amazing trip!  We’re looking forward to trying out some of your recommendations.
